50Cent's Before I self destruct toch later

In mijn lijstje met nieuwe albums voor 2009 schreef ik al over het langverwachte en meermalen uitgestelde nieuwe album van 50Cent, ‘Before I self destruct’. Afgelopen week kwam het bericht naar buiten dat het album opnieuw is uitgesteld. Stond ‘Before I self destruct’ oorspronkelijk gepland voor een release eind januari, nu wordt eind maart genoemd als mogelijke release datum. Over de precieze reden van dit uitstel is niets bekend gemaakt. Misschien dat het iets te maken heeft met de activiteiten van 50Cent op en rond het witte doek: hij is zijn eigen filmmaatschappij begonnen en speelt daarnaast een hoofdrol in de eerste film van zijn eigen maatschappij, naast Nicolas Cage.

Before I self destruct

‘Before I self destruct’ is het vierde solo album van 50Cent en daarnaast het laatste album wat onder het Interscope label zal uitkomen. De laatste release van 50Cent dateert uit oktober 2007, toen hij ‘Curtis’ uitbracht. In tegenstelling tot op dat album zullen op ‘Before I self destruct’ minder gastbijdragen te vinden zijn. ‘Before I self destruct’ zal volgens 50Cent dan ook een heel ander geluid hebben dan zijn vorige albums:

Dit album is agressiever en somberder dan alles wat ik tot nu toe gemaakt heb, ik ga iets maken dat voor deze periode in mijn carriere als hoogtepunt bekend zal komen te staan.

Toch zullen een aantal artiesten bij gaan dragen aan het album. Zo heeft Dr. Dre een aantal nummers geproduceerd en ook Swizz Beats en Scott Torch hebben achter de mengpanelen gestaan. De titel van het album refereert naar het feit dat 50Cent vindt dat hij moet voldoen aan de eisen van iedereen om hem heen, hij beweert zichzelf nog liever wat aan te doen dan anderen teleur te moeten stellen.

Vorig jaar kwam ‘Get up‘ uit en vorige week volgde ‘I get it in‘. Beide singles hebben de 50Cent sound en vooral ‘I get it in’ vind ik zelf erg gaaf!
